Indigenous Organization regarding COVID-19

On March 26th, 2020, a group of Organizations of Indigenous Nationalities, Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations in Ecuador, signed an Urgent Action addressed to the Ecuadorian National Government.

In it they demand urgent and culturally relevant health guarantees for Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities, as well as for rural communities, in the face of the health crisis that the world is currently facing.

From Amazonía 2.0 we support this initiative, understanding that indigenous and rural communities are highly vulnerable to this type of infection, the measures and recommendations must be adapted to their cultural reality. Much of the information and indications established are directed at urban populations, making rural, campesino, afro or indigenous communities invisible, making them even more vulnerable and susceptible to this pandemic.
