WEBINAR: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES OF GOVERNANCE IN THE AMAZON FORESTS

As part of the social-technological platform of the Amazonia 2.0 project and the contingency plan developed for the COVID-19 crisis, a series of free webinars open to the general public will be held in May 2020 to share learning and knowledge about issues of interest to the project.

The first webinar "Opportunities and challenges of governance in the Amazon forests" was held on Friday, May 08, 2020. With the participation of Carmen Josse, executive director of Fundación EcoCiencia, with her presentation "Contribution of indigenous territories to the conservation of the Amazon Basin"; Natasha Garzón, consultant in governance and articulation of local and regional issues of Fundación Natura, with her presentation "The road to intercultural governance of the Amazon"; and Karen Podvin, assistant regional coordinator of the Amazonia 2.0 project, IUCN-South, as moderator.

The event was attended by 140 people, including panelists and participants, from at least 15 countries: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Guyana, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain, Suriname, United Kingdom and the United States; considering the call as very successful.

In addition to two excellent presentations by the speakers, there was a round of questions and a discussion panel. The participation of the attending public was very broad, exchanging numerous questions and comments.
