The #Countdown80x25 kicks off

On August 9, International Day of Indigenous Peoples, the #Countdown80x25 officially began, through an event broadcast on social networks and the start of the clock that marked the 1,239 days remaining to meet the global goal of protecting 80% of the Amazon by 2025.

The Countdown is part of a communication campaign developed by COICA's and Amazonia 2.0's communications teams, that began on July 25, 2022. The campaign seeks to continue strengthening the strategic alliance between COICA and IUCN, making visible the 129th motion approved at the World Conservation Congress in Marseille in 2021. The launching event was attended by Gabriel Quijandría, Director for the IUCN Regional Office in South America, Gregorio Mirabal, General Coordinator of COICA and representatives of COICA's nine grassroots organizations.
