A2.0 at the World Conservation Congress

Amazonia 2.0 was present at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, held September 3-11 2021, in the city of Marseille, France.

Through our stand in the exhibition hall of the congress, we were able to share information and lessons learned from the project, creating relationships that can contribute to the sustainability and continuity of our processes. We also handed out communication material and souvenirs from the communities where we work. This space was very well attended during all the days of the exhibition, being one of the few representatives of the Amazon region and South America in the hall.

We held two important events in which we shared details about the implementation and impacts of Amazonia 2.0. The first, entitled "Connected by our forests: The Amazon a solution for the planet", took place in the Nature-based Solutions Pavilion. This intervention highlighted the role of the Amazon and its peoples in the conservation of the planet's biodiversity. It also highlighted criterion 5 of the global standard on inclusive, transparent and empowering governance processes.

Our second event "Connected by our forests: conserving the Amazon with cultural respect" (see here) made visible the national efforts made by the project, seen through a regional and intercultural perspective, understanding the different contexts and challenges assumed by the project in each area of intervention.

The participation of our project had great resonance, being reviewed by different media: Inter France and EFE Spain.

We were also featured in an article by the IUCN communications team - read here.

We believe that participating in this very important event has been strategic in this closing year of the project, not only for being a showcase to share the project, but also for being a space for articulation. The congress offered us the opportunity to carry out internal work, as well as opportunities to generate new relationships externally. It also allowed us to strengthen the alliances we have been working on, with regional actors such as COICA and ATCO, which will be of vital importance in the coming months.
